EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that addresses disturbing life experiences and trauma that affect mental health, physical health, relationships, and families. Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1987, EMDR is a proven approach to healing trauma.

When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the emotional center of the brain with the original picture, sounds, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and can stay there for years until reprocessing the event(s) can occur. These events/memories can get triggered by daily interactions and cause reactions from distress, anxiety, withdrawal to full-blown PTSD (reliving the event).

Using bi-lateral stimulation (eye movements or buzzers), EMDR stimulates the trauma memories and allows the brain to reprocess the experience, reducing the effect of the original experience. It is the individual's brain that does the healing and each client is the one in control.
